A. Overview
Ad-Darojatun Mosque is one of Pathok Negoro Mosques in Ngayogyakarta Sultanate. It was founded by Sultan Hamengkubuwono I in 1774. Its architecture is almost same with other Pathok Negoro mosques. The building of its main room was built with four pillars with the concept of Joglo. There is special room for female worshipers or known as pawestren at its side. For the porch mosque was built with the concept of pyramid and a pool on the east mosque as a place for cleaning. On the front page of the mosque, there are some Kepel trees.
With all its glorious looks, it was ever torn down by Japanese occupation. The government of Japan planned to expand their military aircraft base and armory that unfortunately included the location at which Ad-Darojatun Mosque is located, specifically in Babadan village, Banguntapan, Bantul. Inevitably, people who settled in the area were forced to perform large-scale displacement, and finally they settled in a place that was named Babadan, but it was located in Kentungan region, Sleman. This area known as New Babadan where the society has also built a new mosque in this area called the Sultan Agung Mosque. The mosque is still standing and lasting until now.
Because of mass migration, the atmosphere of Old Babadan village was quiet practically. In 1960s, approximately 20 years later, the residents took the initiative to rebuild a mosque in Old Babadan village that had previously been torn down by Japanese invaders. With the blessing and support from Sultan Hamengkubuwono IX, the construction had begun in 1964, where the mosque was still semi-permanent form. Subsequently, in 1988, the construction of the mosque was followed by rebuilding the middle porch. The development has succeeded through funding assistance from the government and NGOs. Although the mosque shape was changed, but the typical mosque of Pathok Negoro is still maintained, such as Mustaka (dome) mosque which has still kept well. In 1992, the main stem of buildings demolished and re-adjusted as it was suggested from the original form of joglo concept with teak.
