Kyai Langgeng Park is a natural tourism object located in Magelang, Central Java. This park offers amazing beauty of nature, as well as complete collection of flora and fauna.
The park was named after a local hero who was buried there, namely Kyai Langgeng. Kyai Langgeng was a local hero during Diponegoro War at around 1825-1830 AD. To commemorate his merit, his name was then used as the name of this tourism object.
Kyai Langgeng Park combines the aspect of tourism and education. The combination is reflected in the library inside the tourism area. Along with the building of this library, on May 17th 2003, the Minister of National Education, Prof. Dr. Bambang Soedibyo named this tourism object “Desa Buku Taman Kyai Langgeng” (Village of Books in Kyai LanggengPark) which is the first in Indonesia.
This tourism object, within an area of 28 acres, offers gorgeous natural view and clean environment. Because it is located on the slope of Mount Merapi, the atmosphere around this area is fresh and cool. This tourism area provides huts and seats under big trees for visitors to enjoy the views of green ricefield, river, valley, and rows of hills. Visitors can see the magnificent view of Mount Sumbing and Sindoro at the west side, Mount Andong at the northeast side, Mount Merapi and Merbabu at the east side. The chirping birds add enjoyment to the atmosphere in the park.
In addition to the beauty of the panorama, this tourism site provides supporting facilities for research. For visitors who want to do a library research, they can go to the library which houses numerous collections of books, magazines, newspaper, encyclopedia, dictionary, etc. If visitors want to conduct a natural research, this area also houses complete collection of flora and fauna. The various kinds of flora include Michelia campaca, Ceylon ironwood, Diospiros Rabbola, Mesua Ferrera, matoa (Pometia pinnata), ruser (Arthocarpus sp.), Batoko plum, Sea putat, candlenut, pili nut, bael tree, white longan tree, sausage tree, manila tamarind, banyan trees, royal palm, sandalwood, etc. The collection of fauna includes partridge, phyton, deer, venison, arowana fish, alligator, antelope, ape, eagle, etc.
Kyai Langgeng Park also provides facilities for rafting. The clear water of Progo Asri River will attract visitors who love rafting. The rafting route is about 9 km which can be taken on about 3 hours journey.
During holiday, visitors can enjoy many entertainments such as dangdut orchestra, malay orchestra, reog, kuda lumping, and traditional music orchestra held in Kyai Langgeng Park. Visitors can also join such events as fun walk and mass aerobics held by local community every Sunday morning at 6.00 – 8.00.
Kyai Langgeng Park is about 1 km south of Magelang downtown. The exact address is Jalan Cempaka No. 6, Magelang, Central Java, Indonesia.
To reach Kyai Langgeng Park from Magelang Bus Station, visitors can ride bus route Magelang-Wonosobo or Magelang-Tidar, and stop at the tourism site.
To enter Kyai Langgeng Park every visitor is charged around Rp 5.000,00 (August, 2008). However, to enjoy each ride such as the mini train, merry-go-round, water ride, etc, visitor must pay around Rp 2.000,00 – Rp 10.000,00 per person. For visitors who want to do rafting, the charge per person is Rp 96,000,00. the price includes guide service. To join the fun walk and mass aerobics, every visitor must pay the entrance ticket as much as Rp 1.000,00 per person and the ticket is only valid from 6.00 to 8.00 a.m.
Kyai Langgeng Park provides supporting facilities such as library, reading hut, relaxing area, sport arena, camping ground, tourism forest, cottage, swimming pool, fishing arena, traffic park, aquarium house, floating house, “joglo pandan arum” relaxing house, go-cart arena, and many other rides (rocking horse, water ride, mini train, water pedicab, cart, jet coaster), etc.
Visitors who want to do rafting will get extra facilities such as meals, snack, insurance and transportation back to the departure post. There are also rentals of swimming and rafting equipment as well as handicraft, fruits, and souvenir shops. Hotels, restaurants, telecommunication services, mini market, etc are accessible nearby.
