A. Overview
Cangkringan, an area at the lower slope of Mount Merapi offers green, refreshing and scenic spot which can be utilized for many kinds of activities. One of the villages in Cangkringan is Senolewah, which is more popular as Bumper Senolewah. Bumper is the abbreviation of bumi perkemahan which means camping ground.
Senolewah camping ground is a green hilly land with pine trees here and there. This spot is often used for camping. The 2009 Java Summer Camp held by the Department of Culture and Tourism of Sleman Regency was also held here. In certain occasions, Senolewah is crowded with school or college students who are having join-camping. The camping participants are not only Indonesian, but also those from foreign countries.
Senolewah camping ground is also used for several outdoor training and outbound games. This place is suitable for such activities because it has hilly topography, fresh air, and green view. The local hospitality adds to your enjoyment.
Senolewah camping ground is run and managed autonomously by the local people. The Regional Government of Sleman does put emphasis on the importance of people-based environmental management. Thus, it always encourages Senolewah people to care more to the environment because by this way Senolewah camping ground can keep its existence as the location for holding multi-purpose activities. It will, in return, give economic benefit for the local people themselves.
B. Features
Being in this camping ground means enjoying the vast and green land, shady trees and fresh air. This is of course the best way to ward off your stress from work and such refreshment from the city crowd and pollution. The people of Senolewah are very friendly to whomever coming to this location. This will make you feel like at home. There is nothing more to say except that this place is perfect for nature lovers.
C. Location
Senolewah camping ground is situated at Senolewah Village, Cangkringan, Sleman, Yogyakarta.
D. Access
The access to Senolewah camping ground is very easy either you are taking public or private transportation. If taking a public transportation from Giwangan Bus Station, you must take the bus heading for Kaliurang and get off at Pakem Market. From here, you must chage your bus for a yellow minibus and get off near the place and then then walk to the camping ground. At Pakem Market there are ojek (motorcycle taxi) which will take you straight to the camping ground for an affordable fare.
E. Ticket
If you intend on sightseeing or just walking around Senolewah area, you are only charged with an entrance ticket as much as Rp 3,000. But if you are going to camp here, the charge will depend on the number of the camping participants. If there are less then five participants, the tariff generally ranges from Rp 15,000 to Rp 20,000.
F. Accommodations and Other Facilities
Senolewah camping ground provides visitors with adequate supporting facilities like inns are run by the local people for affordable rent, public convenience, and information center which will be ready to give you assistance at anytime.
