A. Overview

Nglinggo Village is another fascinating tourism village in Kulon Progo. The special quality of this village is the activities of the local people such as in farming, tea and essential oil plantation, and goat breeding. The tourism development in Nglinggo Village is apparent in the growing number of tourists, either domestic of foreign.

Nglinggo tourism village is situated at Nglinggo Subdistrict, Samigaluh District, Kulon Progo Regency, Special Province of Yogyakarta. The majority of its people are farmers and goat breeders. In addition to the farming activity, the green, vast tea plantation is another sight to see. Also, this village has a Javanese village atmosphere with traditional houses (joglo and limasan) which are still taken good care of. These features make the village even more beautiful and truly natural, not to mention the cool air of Manoreh Hills located nearby.

Aside from the natural view, Nglinggo also offers some traditional performances like jathilan, karawitan, wayang kulit (puppet shadow show), and angguk dance. When there is a performance, there will be many booths around the performance location selling the special food or snack of the village such as geblek tempe, cassava chip, peanut brittle, and tempe benguk.

Until today, Nglinggo tourism village is run autonomously by the local people and the Regency Government of Kulon Progo. Both parties cooperate in preserving the village harmony through several social-based development programs. Such management system encourages people’s sense of belonging of the village, thus they are hoped to always keep the harmony and the natural value of the village.

B. Features

Among Nglinggo’s special features, Nglinggo peak is the most prominent one. From upon this peak, you can feel the cool air from the foggy hills and mountain. You can also see the green extent of tea plantation and pine forest with small waterfall on the edge of it.

In fact, Nglinggo tourism village is surrounded by several muontains namely Widosari, Bentar, Tritisan and Kukusan, which are perfect for tourism package. One more thing, Nglinggo tourism village is close to Suroloyo peak.

C. Location

Nglinggo tourism village is situated in Nglinggo Village, Samigaluh District, Kulon Progo Regency, Special Province of Yogyakarta.

D. Access

Nglinggo tourism village is quite popular and accessible by either private or public transportation. From Giwangan Bus Station you can take a city bus heading for Kulon Progo and get off at Wates Terminal. From here, take another minibus to Nglinggo Village and get off at the village road and continue with ojek (motorcycle taxi) to the village.

E. Ticket

Nglinggo local people do not charge tourists. Tourists are only required to keep the village clean and safe.

F. Accommodations and Other Facilities

There are five main supporting facilities in Nglinggo tourism village:

  1. Five guesthouses of 30 people capacity rented for Rp 60,000 per person (including 3 times meals)
  2. A meeting room with a seating capacity of 100 people rented fro Rp 150,000.
  3. Two toilets.
  4. Information center opens from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. WIST.
  5. Three snack kiosks that provide special food and drink of Kulon Progo such as cassava chips, tempe benguk, brittle, tea, and palm sugar.
  6. Two parking areas with the capacity of 40 cars, 160 motorcycles and 2 buses.
