Traditional market is a shopping tourism spot which not only provides the basic necessities but also represents the beauty of Indonesia that needs to be preserved. In this place you can find many articles at low prices and of course you can bargain them. The bargaining is one that you do not find in modern market such a department store and mall. This traditional atmosphere is strongly felt at Pakem Traditional Market.
This market offers almost everything like crafts, farming tools, ornamental plants, pets and more. There are of course the nine basic necessities (usually called sembako). Some special vegetables and fruits of Sleman are also available here such as salak (Zalacca palm) and dragon fruit. This market is near to freshwater fish cultivation, thus, you can find catfish, carp, parrot fish and shripm. They are all sold fresh and sold out everyday.
Some farming products like rice of many types, spices, crops, mushroom and many others are also available here. There are also chicken egg, duck egg, and cow milk and sheep milk.
B. Features
Some vegetables that are rarely found are here in Pakem Traditional Market, such as torch ginger, agati and babunci. There are also rare fruits like yellow-peel salak, and seasonal fruits which grow in cold area.
Pakem traditional market has been in existence since long time ago and its original features never fades away despite the technological advance. The market is able to promote the economic cycle with the hospitality of Yogyakarta people. Shopping in this market is very comfortable because the sellers are clustered according to their commodities. So it is easier for you to find the things you are looking for.
C. Location
Administratively, Pakem traditional Market is located in Pakem District, Sleman Regency, Special Province of Yogyakarta. This market is close to Kaliurang tourism resort.
D. Access
Pakem Traditional Market is situated on the sidewalk of Yogyakarta – Kaliurang road. If taking a public transportation, you can take the Terban – Kaliurang or the Giwangan Bus Station – Kaliurang minibus. Tell the conductor to drop you at Pakem Traditional Market.
E. Ticket
Entering the market is free of charge. Only, if you are taking your private vehicle you are going to have to pay Rp 1,000 for motorcycle parking fee and Rp 2,000 for car’s.
F. Accommodations and Other Facilities
Other supporting facilities in this market include clean toilet, wide parking area, small mosque and post guard 20 meters from the market. There are also some hostels, inns, cottages, and villas nearby.
