A. Overview

Sidoharjo is not far from other tourism villages in Kulon Progo. The tourism village lies on the hill of Menoreh with its green, fresh, and beautiful nature. There also grow many kinds of plants and trees that have not been bred by the local people.

The zone consists of 18 hamlets and is divided into three:

  1. The Upper Zone including Nglambur, Wonogiri, Nyemani, Madigondo, and Wonotawang hamlets.
  2. The Middle Zone including Munggang Lor, Munggang Wetan, Gorolangu, Tetes, Sumoroto, Nungkep, and Tukmudal hamlets.
  3. The Lower Zone including Sulur, Keweron, Bleder, Kedokan, Sebo, and Gebang hamlets.

Today the three zones have become beautiful tourism objects often visited. The lands of the zones are filled with clove, coffee, and cocoa plantations. The areas are also surrounded by pine forests and rice fields.

The forests covering the village are occupied by scarce and wild animals, like long-tailed apes whose number is hundreds. There also dwell civet cats whose number is very few. There also dwell very rare leopards. There are also mongooses, scaly anteaters, and monitor lizards.

B. Features

Aside from the astonishing natural views, Sidoharjo Tourism Village also offers various special tourism objects of the village, such as a 75-meter waterfall, Watu Segandul and Bat Cave, respectively a huge stone stuck in a river and a cave dwelt by many bats. Other objects are Kanda Waru, Alang-alang Kumitir which is a natural as well as beautiful view, Pongangan Peak, Kedali Sada which is a huge stone in a curved form looking like a cave for meditation and ancient religious rituals, Indra Kila which is a huge stone, and the pathways to enjoy the village and its fresh air.

Sidoharjo Tourism Village also serves you with various cultural attractions and custom rituals, like the arts of jathilan, kethoprak, salawatan, rebana, hadrah, karawitan, ande-ande lumut, leather puppet, wiwit-wiwitan ceremony in harvest time, and merti dusun. Those are usually held to entertain the visitors and have been the traditions of the village since a long time.

C. Location

Sidoharjo Tourism Village is situated more or less 5 kilometers away from Samigaluh District, Kulon Progo, Yogyakarta.

D. Access

To reach the location of Sidoharjo Tourism Village is very easy, either by personal or public transportation. Moreover, the village is already famous among the tour lovers. From the bus station in Yogyakarta, you can take any transportation heading for Kulon Progo and stop by the village road. After that you may ask the information center available in the village to explore the place deeper.

E. Ticket

The villagers do not charge tourists any cent. You are only required to keep the environment clean.

F. Accommodations and Other Facilities

The interesting thing about the village is that there are no lodgings around. If you care to stay and enjoy the atmosphere of the village longer, you can take a rest in the houses of the local people that are rented. It is deliberately made so in order that you can explore deeper the village lives and interact with the local people closer. The foods served are also the local daily foods taken directly from their farms. All of the people there will welcome you warmly.
