A. Overview

As a seafood culinary resort, Baron Fish Auction Market is new. It is yet to reach its 10th years now, but it has attracted countless visitors to come and get some fishes.

Baron Fish Auction Market is open everyday, from 06.00 to 18.00 West Indonesian Standard Time, and offering fresh fishes. There are different kinds of them. Pomfret, shark, tuna, shrimp, small shark, skipjack tuna, squid and many others are just some.

The prices at Baron Fish Auction Market is “friendlier” compared to those at the markets in Yogyakarta, Magelang, and Solo. They depend on the kind of fish though. Shrimp is sold at Rp 40,000, shark Rp 20,000, squid is Rp 30,000, and small shark is usually Rp 15,000, all is counted per kilogram. You can also get your fishes cooked there, using the cooking service that will cost you Rp 7,000 per kilogram. You just tell them if you would like your fishes fried or roasted.

As the fish trading business is getting more promising in Gunungkidul and also Bantul, there are more fishermen and thus, more sea products sold. No wonder, that the auction market is often crowded by people. They love to enjoy the seafood while taking pleasure of the beach scenery.

B. Features

The prices are clearly a good attraction in Baron Fish Auction Market. If you do not come for a shop, you can just come over to one of the food stalls to savor some seafood, which is about Rp 8,000 – Rp 10,000 per portion.

Aside from the market, there is of course the famous Baron Beach for you to enjoy. Playing around on the shore will be a great experience. And after that, you can wash your body at the underground estuary whose water is so fresh and pure.

C. Location

Baron Fish Auction Market is administratively situated at Kemadang Village, Tanjungsari District, Gunungkidul Regency, Special Province of Yogyakarta. It is at Baron Beach area, which is 65 km south of Yogyakarta City or 20 km away from Wonosari.

D. Access

To get to the location, there are options of transportation you can use. You can take a taxi, bus, or private vehicles. However, if you want to go there by public transportation, here is the guide:

From Tugu Train Station at Yogyakarta, take a Transjogja bus route 1A for Adisucipto Airport. At Adisucipto Bus Stop, you should change for Giwangan Bus Station with a 3B-route bus. The Transjogja bus ticket is Rp 3,000. Then you should take a bus heading for Wonosari, which will cost Rp 5,000. After taking one hour or two long trip, you will arrive at Wonosari Bus Station, at which you should continue your trip by minibus. This will cost Rp 4,000.

E. Ticket

There is no admission ticket to Baron Fish Auction Market. You will be charged for the parking though. The parking will be Rp 2,500 for a car and Rp 1,000 for a motorcycle.

F. Accommodation and Other Facilities

Baron Fish Auction Market has many facilities which for visitors, such as wide parking lot, seafood stalls, affordable hostel, camping ground, and fishing place.
