A. Overview

Bunder Rest Area is a stopover for resting in Bunder Wanagama Forest, Gunungkidul. Indeed, people like to go to Gunungkidul for there are appealing tourism resorts, such as the shoreline that stretches up to 70 km long east to west in the southernmost part of the regency.

The roads to the beaches are windy and must be tiring. For that reason, in 2001, the government through the Tourism and Cultural Agency of Gunungkidul provided the tourists with the rest area. It is situated in the halfway point of Yogyakarta-Wonosari main road.

Although administratively sitting in Gading Village area, the place uses the name “Bunder”, a village that borders with Gading, separated by Oya River. One of the reasons is because the rest are is closer to the people’s residence of Bunder Village than of Gading.

In this area, you can feel the fresh air, the typical therapeutical aroma of cajuput, and also entertaining chirps of sooty-headed bulbuls, grey parakeets, fulvous-breasted woodpeckers, jungle fowls, white-bellied swiftlets, and other birds.
