In Central Java, one of the most interesting traditional markets is Tawangmangu Market in Karanganyar. The market is like others traditional markets, selling various needs, snacks, fruits and vegetables, and clothes, except that it is relatively clean. Especially you who would like to have some fresh fruits and vegetables, this market is highly recommended.
Tawangmangu Market is built upon a land as wide as 12.700 m2 with the width of the building is 11.000 m2. Nowadays, Tawangmangu Market has become a tourism market which is neat and pleasurable. The market’s location, which is not far from the infamous Tawangmangu waterfall and Mount Lawu, makes it very busy. Local people and tourists crowd the market everyday. For mount climbers, this market is where they get some supplies before having a go at Mount Lawu.
B. Features
Tawangmangu Market has a distinctive feature, i.e. it specializes in fresh fruits and vegetables, which are taken straight from the peasants of the slope of Mount Lawu. The carrots, mustard greens, cabbages, and potatoes will look very fresh and still have a slight soil smell. This is of course very appealing for vegetarians.
Tawangmangu Market’s design combines traditional and modern market. Thus inside, you can find both traditional and modern goods.
C. Location
Tawangmangu Market is situated in Tawangmangu, Karanganyar, Central Java. It is approximately one kilometer away from Tawangmangu Waterfall.
D. Access
Tawangmangu Market is very accessible using either private or public vehicle. Taking public vehicle, from Solo or Karanganyar Bus Station, you can go by bus heading for Tawangmangu and get off before the market.
E. Ticket
There is no admission charge in the market.
F. Accommodations and Other Facilities
Some supporting facilities for visitors are spacious parking lot, toilets, small mosque, hotspot area, and food court.
