By visiting this market, you can shop while learning the history of Surakarta Sunanate at the same time.

Windujenar Market used to be called Triwindu, because the market was only held on triwindu or three windu basis. One windu equals eight years, so the market was actually present once every 24 years. The history says that Triwindu Market was a birthday gift for the princess, Gusti Putri Mangku Negara VII Nurul Khamaril, in the year of 1939. The market used to be a horse barn. Then, it started to be held everyday and thus become a regular market. A long time later, on July 5th 2008, the market was renovated to be adjusted with Solo-style architecture. It is now open from 09.00 to 18.00 West Indonesian Standard Time.

Windujenar Traditional Market is a center for antique goods. At first, the merchants here used barter system of trade and put their goods on tables. But over the time, since 1960 they started to set up some kiosks.

In the market complex, there is held an event known as Pasar Panji Art Festival annually. Panji is believed to be a Javanese prince who was adept in art, music, dance, drama, poetry, and who was also an example for people of how to live in line with nature.
