A. Overview
Depok Beach is a really attractive place to visit. One of the reasons is the Fish Auction Market, which is where people come to get fresh fishes. So while enjoying the coastal scenery of Depok, you should also get some exquisite taste of the fishes.
Depok has developed to be a culinary reference in the South Coast area, complementing Parangtritis. With the Fish Auction Market, it offers fishes at affordable prices which are certainly lower than in usual markets. It has been there for over 13 years but still highly appealing for seafood lovers, either domestic or foreign.
TPI Depok has been there in 1997, when fishermen from Cilacap often stopped at the area. As time went by, the fishermen set up a place for trading their catches. The local people, who were not fishermen before, started to fish, learning from their Cilacap fellows.
In reaping season, each boat can catch minimum 100 kg of fishes while in other season, they can only catch about 20 kg each boat. Among the fishes sold in the market are pomfret, crab, shrimp, scabbard ribbon fishes, shark, tuna, cuttle, and so on. The fishermen usually set out to the sea before dawn and get back at midday. So if you are looking for fresh fishes, you’d better come 13.00-14.00. Before from Depok waters, the fishes are also brought there from Baron, Pacitan, Semarang, and other nearby fish auction markets.
Depok Fish Auction Market opens everyday 09.00-1800 West Indonesian Standard Time on workdays. On Mondays/Holidays, it opens 05.30-18.00 WIST.
