A. Overview

Yogyakarta is rich with water-related tourism resorts. One of them is Embung Tambakboyo. Embung is a Javanese word which means a reservoir while Tambakboyo refers to where it is situated, i.e. Tambakboyo Village in Sleman Regency.

The water of Embung Tambakboyo comes from Tambak Bayan and Buntung Rivers. This reservoir was built in 2003 with 7.8 acres width and 400.000 m³ volume capacity. Today, people come to Embung Tambakboyo to have an excursion or fish. There are many fishes such as goldfish, kotes, parrot fish, and other fishes.

The existence of this reservoir makes it easier for local people to get clean water. They no longer have to inject a well in dry season. The government of Sleman Regency is currently working on land conservation around the reservoir by sowing many kinds of plants such as Spanish cherry, mahogany, palm, and casuarinas tree. This is in accordance with the main function of Embung Tambakboyo, which is environment conservation, tourism, and water supplier.

B. Features

Embung Tambakdoyo’s surrounding is a vast green landscape. You will feel it roomy and fresh over there. The heat of the sun will not bother you for there are shady trees as well. You can also do some water sports such as canoeing, jet skiing, and so on. If you are hungry, you can catch fishes in the water and have them roasted in the stalls around there.

C. Location

Embung Tambakboyo is situated in Tambakboyo Village, Depok District, Sleman Regency, Special Province of Yogyakarta, 1,5 km north of Ring Road intersection near the Universitas Pembangunan Nasional (UPN).

D. Access

Visiting Embung Tambakboyo should not be difficult either by private or public vehicle. If you go by public transportation, start from Giwangan Bus Station, Yogyakarta, by route number 10 bus and get off on the street near the reservoir. Then you can walk or take a motorcycle taxi to get there. However, a trip to Embung Tambakboyo could be even more enjoyably by bicycle. With a bike, you can get around and feel the atmosphere around the reservoir.

E. Ticket

The ticket is very affordable, i.e. Rp 1,000.

F. Accommodations and Other Facilities

Embung Tambakboyo provides some facilities for visitors, such as:

Fishing pond. You can have your catches roasted in the stalls around the reservoir,
Eating places offering many kinds of food and drink,
Clean toilet,
Accommodative parking lot.
