Jogja, Jogjatrip.com – Tens of students took part in an event called “Aksi Anak Jogja Peduli Jepang" (“Jogja Kids Care for Japan”) at the courtyard of Taman Budaya Yogyakarta (TBY), Sunday (20/3). They were drawing on postcard-sized papers or writing motivational words to cheer up Miyagi quake and tsunami victims. The event was organized by Atsuki (Tokusatsu Anime Community), an organization for Japanese culture lovers in Yogyakarta.

Besides drawing, the kids also made swan origami. Ali Warkhan, who is in charge of the event, said that they would make 1000 swan origami to express their care for Japan. “These kids look enthusiastic to get involved in this event. Back then when Jogja was hit by the 2006 earthquake, Japan was one of the nations that helped. By this event, we want to show our sympathy to them,” explained Ali Warkhan.

The kids moved Mami Ohisi’s heart. She is a Japanese student of ISI Yogyakarta. “When the disaster happened, I was already here in Yogyakarta. Now that they hold this event, I want to take my part,“ said the woman who speaks fluent Indonesian. “All the works will be displayed in one of art galleries in Miyagi. The place is like TBY,” said Mami Ohisi.

This activity is the beginning of a series of sympathetic events dedicated to Japan. The next action is called “Jogja’s Message for Japan” and held on March 24, 2011 at 20.00 WIST at TBY. At the end, an action to collect alms called “Jogja Care for Japan” will be held on March 26, 2011 at Yudhistira Hall, JEC (Jogja Expo Center) 2nd floor.***(Indra Jati)
