Jogja, Jogjatrip.com—As many as 170 artworks will be exhibited in a big art event labeled ART JOGJA 10 “Indonesian Art Now: The Strategies of Being” starting from Friday, July 16, 2010 at Taman Budaya Yogyakarta (TBY), Sriwedari Street No 1 Yogyakarta.
Bringing in the new name, Art Jogja, the local fine art exhibition previously named Jogja Art Fair (JAF) tries to expand its coverage. Although implying domestic connotation, the name ART|JOG actually aims for the practice of a more up-to-date fine art in a broader sense. Moreover, ART|JOG is hoped to take in the works of artists from all over Indonesia. JAF (Jogja Art Fair) itself is positioned as an institution which manages and has control over the organization of ART|JOG.
According to Director of ART|JOG 10 Satriagama Rakantaseta, ART|JOG 10 offers interesting issues without detracting the context of modernity. The issues are the return of our long-existed perspective toward fine arts and the attempt toward the autonomy of interpretation and appraisal for the works of artists with our long-existed perspective.
“Art Jog is held to enhance the visit of artists from outside Yogyakarta. We attempt to acquaint students with the artists and their works. We all hope that this event gives contribution in fine art development,” said Satriagama in the press conference at the Seminar Hall of Taman Budaya Yogyakarta, Wednesday (7/14).

Art Jog 10 selected 170 works of 158 artists from total 1.450 artworks of more than 600 artists. Out of the 170 works, 75 percent of them are two-dimentional artworks and the rest 25 percent are three-dimentional. Artistic Director of ART|JOG 10 Aminudin TH Siregar added that the change from Jogja Art Fair into Art Jogja was due to the change in international constellation of art fair. This time, the art fair refers to the use of city name.
“The current art fair refers to city name, that is why we changed the name into Art Jogja. We hope that the name will become more flexible in developing its vision, moreover, this is an international event,” he explained.
ART|JOG|10 brings out the theme “Indonesian Art Now: The Strategies of Being”. It aims at sharpening the interpretation of the signs in the current practice of fine art in our country, as well as accommodating breakthroughs in art that may provide a basis for future development. About the word ‘strategies’ in the theme, Aminudin added that the enthusiasm in changing the name was the keyword to make it Art Jog rationale. It is hoped that the sales target of the artworks reaches 100 percent, in which the highest sales price is Rp 350 million and the lowest one will be Rp 20 million, whereas in the 2009 Jogja Art Fair the sales reached 60 percent. **(Andreas Eko Wahyu S)
