The 2010 Pasar Kangen Jogja is one of the major events in Yogyakarta which will be held by Taman Budaya Yogyakarta (TBY) from June 26 to July 4 2010. This annual event will present numerous arts, traditions and culinaries wrapped in market concept.
The basic aim of Pasar Kangen Jogja (PKJ) is to serve an appreciation media for art works of artists or communities spread in Special Region of Yogyakarta. It is hoped that through this event their art works will come across more people. In the future, it will get them closer to people and thus economically benefit the artists.
This PKJ is the second one to be held in 2010. The setting is made as if a real market. Artists and communities are welcomed to display their art works for sell here. These commodities are undoubtedly unique and they are one of a kind. What makes it more special is that the artists and visitors are free of charge to enter PKJ and participate in the workshops held in the booths. Wrapped in such a concept, PKJ is hoped to serve an art and cultural event which visitors will always long for (the word kangen in Indonesia means ‘to miss’) so that it affirms that Yogyakarta people still cling on their local arts and traditions.
PKJ is initiated by TBY Artists Community, DIY Tourism Board, and several other artists and cultural observers in Yogyakarta. In this 2010 PKJ, the total number of artists who take part reaches a thousand. They are occupying the booths based on the following categories:
