Gembiraloka Zoo to Build Reptile Park

Jogjatrip.com, Yogyakarta – To attract tourists and add to the facilities at the same time, Gembiraloka Zoo Yogyakarta has been planning to build a reptile park. The construction of the reptile park is targeted to be done before the Eid al-Fitr day of 2010. The park, which is located in the east of the zoo’s aquarium, will contain 100 reptiles of 60 species.

According to Gembiraloka Marketing Manager, RAJ Dyah Tjokrokusumaningrum, the reptile park will be launched right on the day of Eid al-Fitr this year and it is really hoped that with this new facility, the zoo can attract more visitors.

The construction itself is estimated to cost around Rp 800 million to Rp 1 billion will indeed add to the richness of Gembiraloka in terms of collection, moreover as they have a couple of turtles called Aldabra which are 120 years old. Gembiraloka is the only zoo in Indonesia to have this kind of Seychelles-originated turtles.

“At the moment, the construction has been going 35 percent and thus we hope to have it completely done before this year’s lebaran (the end of Ramadan),” she said. (Andreas Eko Wahyu)
