Jogja, Jogjatrip.com—Tourism sector is the most selling aspect in Yogyakarta as well as having a significant potential compared to those in other cities. To make Yogyakarta tourism more popular among tourists, stakeholders and related parties are encouraged to carry out more strategic and concrete actions to further increase Jogja tourism promotion.
The motion was delivered by Head of Tourism Agency of DIY Drs. Tazbir, M Hum in the Tourism Discussion “Finding A New Way to Promote Jogja”, Monday (7/19) at Griya KR, Mangkubumi Street, Yogyakarta. Presented as speakers were Ferry Astono (Chief Counsellor of Tourism Promotion Agency of Yogyakarta/ BP2KY), Ronny Sugiantoro (Vice Editor of KR) and Destha T Raharjana S.Sos, M.Si from Tourism Study Center of UGM.
Tazbir stated that Yogyakarta Tourism Agency is ready for any strategic actions to promote Yogyakarta tourism considering that this city has a big tourism potential. The packaging was, however, something that needs careful thought. “There are many aspects that need better management. One of the examples is the limited tourism information, thus an easier access to it must be provided for tourists. It is hoped that we can, at least, make Jogja as a city of 1000 events.”
Chief Counsellor of BP2KY Ferry Astono proposed that to optimize Yogyakarta tourism promotion there must be a collective promotion action in which the province as the leader must be supported by the four regencies and one municipality to collectively think and plan what to do to promote Yogyakarta. Promoting Yogyakarta is crucial especially to return to its glory in 1997 when the number of tourist visit reached its peak. Back then, the number of foreign tourists visiting Yogyakarta reached around 400 thousands people. Ironically, until 2010, the number decreases to around 300 thousands which means that since the last 13 years, it never reaches 400 thousands.
“Let us think together and make plan for better promotion. We must have a prior promotion plan for 2010. It’s high time we returned Yogyakarta glory in the past 13 years when we achieved 400 thousands visit of foreign tourists,” Ferry stated.
Ferry added that all stakeholders and related parties must improve not only the tourism promotion method but also the supproting infrastructures.
The tourism discussion also aimed to encourage all people to find for a solution so as to maintain Yogyakarta as the main tourism destination. Tourism, whatever the activity and the supporting events, is the responsible of everyone to promote it. Even a small event should give a positive impact for the public, tourism agencies or economic aspect. *** (Andreas Eko Wahyu S)
