Danceology: "Life Stories Through Body", The Coming Latin Dance Show

Jogja, Jogjatrip.com—Until today, latin dances are still considered as exclusive dance and sport, whereas the fact in Yogyakarta, they are pretty simple yet unpopular. Aiming at socializing latin dance to Yogyakarta people, Minesweeper Multimedia Art will hold a latin dance show at the Concert Hall of Taman Budaya Yogyakarta, August 1^st 2010.

This is going to be the first latin show in Yogyakarta and there will be 22 dancers from Bantul, Sleman and Yogyakarta city. Eight choreographies will be performed accompanied by Mr. Dance and Jazz Legacy. The dancing will be very special with the artistic touch and properties.

Head Committee of Danceology Finasti Namiarum said that Danceology was an event held to inform that latin dance has become another branch of dance in Indonesia, particularly in Yogyakarta. It is hoped that the an-hour performance can introduce latin dance to the public as well as warding off the perception that latin dance is exclusive dance. Some of the dances performing in the show are the cha-cha, samba, rumba, paso doble, and more.

“What is special about this event is that this is going to be the first big latin dance event in Yogyakarta. Latin dance is a branch of sport which involves dancing,” explained Finasti, Head Committee and choreographer, to Jogjatrip.com, Tuesday (7/20).

Yan Fau, one of the dancers, said that latin dances is very attractive in a way that they have elegant and varied moves. Surely, this simple dance can be socialized to the public.

“Only, those interested in latin dance are still shy in learning the dances. Moreover, there are not many dance venue in Yogyakarta,” Yan Fau added.
