Nglanggeran Hillwalking, a Way of Introducing Unpopular Tourism Potentials of Gunungkidul

Jogja, Jogjatrip.com – To support the Visit Indonesia 2011 and Visit Jogja 2012 programs as well as to help build Yogyakarta tourism image, the Provincial Tourism Agency of Yogyakarta in cooperation with the Cultural and Tourism Agency of Gunungkidul are holding an event entitled Jelajah Wisata Alam (JWA) Gunung Api Purba Nglanggeran 2010, which is hillwalking around Nglanggeran ancient volcano, next Monday, August 1^st.

Head of Yogyakarta Tourism Agency Drs. Tazbir, M.Hum. said that the JWA aims at introducing tourism potentials of Gunungkidul Regency which are not yet popular. The event will be held in Nglanggeran Village, Patuk District, Gunungkidul Regency, Yogyakarta and is expected to involve at least 3000 participants.

“Until today, there have been 1500 people on the list, coming from Jombang, Surabaya, Jakarta, Bandung, and here, Gunungkidul. We really hope that we can meet our target of participants on the due day,” he said at his office on Wednesday (07/21).

The secretary of the JWA committee, Mohammad Haliem, added that in this event, participants will walk relaxedly around the slope of Nglanggeran, which is an ancient volcano, and take a 7 km route through the captivating countryside scene.

“This natural exploration is a leisure activity so it is not a competition, although we have some kinds of door prizes. We are going to get the event started at 8 in the morning from Karang Yard in Nglanggeran Village. We hope that a lot of people will take part in this event because last year, people were very enthusiastic to get involved,” he said.

JWA is an annual event held by the Tourism Agency of Yogyakarta. This year’s JWA has various door prizes for participants such as 2 motorcycles, 6 mountain bikes, 6 TVs, 6 fans, 6 cell phones, and many others provided by the sponsors. ** (Andreas Eko Wahyu S)
