Jogja, Jogjatrip.com—To advance the craft business and accommodate the aspiration of small businesses agents, National Handicraft Organization (Dekranas) of Yogyakarta is holding “Jogja Creation for Indonesia 2010” Exhibition, August 6th – 8th 2010 at Malioboro Mall Atrium, Yogyakarta. The same exhibition has been held for seven times and in this exhibition there are various crafts of high quality from numbers of craftsmen.
At least 27 participants with the majority of small and medium businesses (UMK) in Yogyakarta are going to exhibit their craft products covering wooden batik, leather handicraft, batik clothing, silver craft, moslem fashion and many other handicrafts. Dekranas of Yogyakarta does not set limitation on the number of participants, yet the highest percentage is still the craftsmen managed by Dekranas of Yogyakarta.
The craft exhibition is hoped to become a shopping destination for tourists from Yogyakarta or even outside. It is recorded that the 2007 exhibition’s turnover was over 128 million rupiahs, while the 2008’s achieved over 240 million.
Vice President of Dekranas Tri Kirana Muslidatun stated that in this exhibition Dekranas targets for Rp 200 million sales turnover. This figure is smaller compared to that of 2009’s which reached Rp 320 million. This is due to the short exhibition day which is only for three days.
“We asked for adequate marketing space or buyer meeting space that suit the number of Dekranas members to the season and their capacity. On the launching we will invite the Dekranas from other cities in purpose of developing and advancing the small and medium businesses and cooperatives (UMKM),” she said at Yogyakarta Townhall (8/3).
Executive Committee Ir. Sukinah Sumarjo stated that the exhibition will also display traditional art for young people, not to mention inviting schools in Yogyakarta to exhibit their works. “We invited schools to jazz up the event and we also invited Dimas and Diajeng to the fashion show.”
Creation Exhibiton for Indonesia 2010 is open for public from August 6th – 8th 10 a.m – 9 p.m WIST. This will be a test for quality rivalry to see whether what the craftsmen produced are welcomed by market, considering that this is one of the commitment of Dekranas in managing the small and medium businesses and cooperatives (UMKM).**(Andreas Eko Wahyu S)
